S.N.S. Herning

S.N.S. Herning was founded in 1931 by Soren Nielsen Skyt (1899-1972). As a young man he made a living from selling knitted garments in central Jutland, Denmark. In the late 1920's he discovered a way of hand knitting garments with 'bubbles' that would serve as insulation & protect its wearer from the rough weather at sea. During this time new knitting machines with jacquard strapping began to appear in Denmark from England & Germany - he set out to use this machinery to make these same patterns.
Since 1931 to this day the brand is still working with the same traditional techniques by using the original machines - and every season, the main body of the collection is either complete re-makes of styles knitted before, or styles that are based on a knitting pattern from the archives.
